Original Oil Painting on Canvas, 60"x 50"
Greater Flamingo's fly in formation across the backdrop of the mighty dunes of Sandwich Harbour, Namibia. Thousands of flamingo's congregate in this area each year after spending time further North in Etosha during the breeding season. The dunes of Sandwich Harbour can reach a height of a thousand feet and provide a formidable buttress to the powerful and often stormy Atlantic Ocean that breaks along its shores.
The waters around Sandwich Harbour are rich in crustaceans and algae and play host to vast numbers of migrants. Idyllic in its isolation, this area is an invaluable refuge for a variety of birdlife seeking suitable Wintering grounds.
Deviation from nature is deviation from happiness
